This area, once vast plantation land, was transformed in the 19th century into tree-lined streets filled with grand antebellum mansions and lush gardens. As you stroll through this charming district, admire the striking architecture and hear stories of the families who shaped its legacy. Stop by the Lafayette Cemetery, where above-ground tombs reveal the city’s unique burial traditions and history. Beyond the mansions, uncover hidden gems such as firehouses, cottages, and literary landmarks. Crossing into the Irish Channel, encounter shotgun-style homes and learn about the immigrants whose hard work and traditions helped build New Orleans into the vibrant cultural hub it is today.
